The Dodgers defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-0 on Monday night behind Tyler Anderson, with Mookie Betts hitting a three-run home run and Cody Bellinger adding a two-run double. As a result, they were the first major league team to clinch a playoff position this season. This time, it's for real.
The Dodgers won 6-0 to formally earn a postseason berth after Tyler Anderson went seven innings without allowing a run. The Dodgers added three runs in the seventh and three more in the ninth. The Dodgers didn't waste any time in correcting Major League Baseball's error a day after they believed they had won the series, only to discover there was still a mathematically possible chance of a ridiculous tiebreaker.
After defeating the Padres on Sunday, the Dodgers believed they had locked up a spot in the postseason. They celebrated with a postgame toast and handed everyone caps with the postseason emblem on them. After more consideration, the math wasn't quite right, leaving the Dodgers barely short.
On Tuesday, a victory would allow the Dodgers to claim the NL West, making it three celebrations in three days. The Dodgers are 54 games over.500 after winning their 97th game of the year on Monday.
In the seventh inning, the Dodgers scored a run by loaded the bases with no outs against the D-backs bullpen. Trayce Thompson's sacrifice fly off Kevin Ginkel broke the scoreless tie, and Bellinger's double into the right-center gap gave the Dodgers a 3-0 lead.
Bellinger, who won the 2019 NL MVP award but hasn't produced at that level since, enjoyed it at the time. He had a.200 batting average, 17 home runs, and 55 RBIs going into the contest.
Betts made a nice play for the Dodgers while getting a rare start at second base.
A grounder from quick D-backs outfielder Alex Thomas ricocheted off Anderson's glove, forcing Betts to reroute himself as he ran in to retrieve the ball. Betts beat Thomas to the ball by a millisecond and flicked it to Freeman with his glove hand.
Betts, who typically plays right field for the team, started his fifth game at second base to fill in for the injured Gavin Lux. Betts began his career as an infielder in the major leagues before moving to the outfield.
“Belly will be Belly, he'll be fine,” Betts said. “He always finds ways. He competes. He plays a Gold Glove center field, which is huge. For some odd reason, he comes through in those clutch situations. We always know he'll be there, be a fierce competitor and be ready when the lights turn on.”
Dodgers: According to Roberts, INF Gavin Lux (neck) is making progress, participating in "all baseball activities," and may be added to the active 메이저사이트 roster this weekend. ... Roberts is still optimistic that Tony Gonsolin can return to the rotation by the end of the season, but he conceded that time is running out. On Sunday, Gonsolin threw a bullpen and came out feeling "OK," according to Roberts.
